Members talk about the value of advice
The benefits of professional financial advice are well documented – both the better financial outcomes and the non-financial outcomes – better financial literacy and confidence1.
As an ANZ Staff Super member, you can access financial advice about your super – not just once, but as many times as you need – at no additional cost2.
So what can you expect? We asked ANZ Staff Super members who’ve recently been through the fund’s advice process if they’d recommend it.
“Very much so,” says Pradeesh Pal a member since 2001. “The sooner the better to work out your retirement strategies”.
“I would recommend it,” says Paul Sammut a member since 1987. “Even if you think you know what you’re doing, a financial adviser can be a great sounding board.”
“Yes, I’d recommend getting advice,” says Susan Heron a member since 1992. “There were a number of things I had been thinking about for a while but hadn’t gotten around to doing.”
Advice options to suit your needs
The first step in the process is to call the friendly ANZ Staff Super team who will ask you a couple of simple questions to help match you with the advice you need:
| Type of advice |
What it is |
Examples |
| General Advice |
General guidance not tailored to your personal situation. |
Insurance, contributions, investment choice, retirement options. |
| Structured General Advice |
In-depth general advice from a general advice consultant or financial adviser on three key topics. |
Retirement options, super health check and consolidation |
| Personal Advice |
Tailored to your personal goals, financial situation, and needs. |
Investment options, contribution strategies, insurance, retirement income. |
| Simple Retirement Advice |
Personal advice including partner’s super and Centrelink eligibility. |
Transition-to-retirement, aged pension, recontribution strategies and household cashflow needs. |
| Comprehensive Advice |
Holistic financial planning including assets outside super. |
Referred service (fees apply). |
Easy to book, minimal preparation
After those first few questions you’ll be offered a phone appointment. Need flexibility? Ask for an appointment outside our usual operating hours – advisers are located in all states,
“Preparation for the appointment was minimal,” says Paul. “You do just enough to get you thinking. Annual expenses surprised me – I hadn’t really thought about how much I might need to live comfortably.”
You’ll get a reminder the day before your appointment. On the day your adviser will guide the conversation.
“My adviser talked about transition-to-retirement and estate planning,” says Pradeesh. “I wasn’t aware of those options.”
“He explained everything in terms I understood,” says Susan. “We talked about investments, salary sacrifice, and making a Binding Death Benefit Nomination. That form is now on the kitchen table, ready to sign.”
Support beyond advice
Members are often surprised by the extra help available:
- After-hours appointments – just ask
- Paperwork support – especially for pension setup
- Centrelink help – via a free service that liaises on your behalf. “Our advisers use a service called Retirement Essentials” says Lynne Tan, Scaled Advice Manager, Retire360. “They liaise with Centrelink and reduce wait times – and it’s free for ANZ Staff Super members.”
Face-to-face retirement advice at Docklands
From October 2025 if you’re looking for retirement advice you’ll have the choice when you call to make a phone-based or a face-to-face appointment with an adviser at Docklands.
One day every month starting October an adviser will meet members seeking retirement advice in the office at Docklands. Those members will be offered the upcoming in-office advice date (till all places are booked) in addition to the usual phone appointments. Be quick for an in-office appointment if that’s your preference – they will fill fast. Otherwise phone appointments are always available.
Advice makes a difference
“It was good to get the facts straight from the horse’s mouth,” says Paul. “Newspaper articles and friends had been my main source of information until I took up ANZ Staff Super’s offer.”
Pradeesh and Susan will be going back for more: “I will be getting financial advice again as I get closer to retiring” says Pradeesh. “As I get closer to retirement I’ll definitely go back for more advice” says Susan “I also need to start creating some new hobbies before I retire, I think!”.
